Department: Office of Institutional Research Salary/Rate: $55,000 - 63,000 @ 1.0 FTE FTE: 1.0 Position Summary: This position reports to the IR Lead Analyst. The staff analyst assists in gathering data and fulfilling requests for both routine and ad-hoc data requests that are submitted to the Office of Institutional Research. A working knowledge of university business operations, business intelligence systems, statistical packages, report writing software, and relational databases is required. Analytical skills will be necessary in support of current and new initiatives in which the IR office is involved such as, but not limited to, data acquisition, accreditation, data warehouses, retention/graduation rate analysis, survey results/submissions (both internal and external), and other special projects. The position provides the analysis of a wide range of data affecting university operations and student enrollment. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential in conveying technical and statistical information to non-technical user groups and upper-level management. Also essential is designing and writing reports that have clear and concise data visualizations, significant findings identified, and recommendations for further work and/or analysis that might be necessary based on those findings. The position includes the need to view confidential information that is protected under the federal FERPA and occasionally HIPAA guidelines. Minimum Classification Qualifications: A bachelor degree is required in the area of computer science, computer science/mathematics, management information systems, or an equivalent or similar area of study. Must be proficient in computer software applications with knowledge of and extensive use in report writing software, the Microsoft Office Suite, familiarity with information system software, database systems, and project management software. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with IBM's Cognos business intelligence report writing software and other analysis tools. Experience with Ellucian Banner products (e.g. Admissions, Student, Finance, & HR) or other Student Information Systems. Experience other database programming languages. All Listed Duties: Gather, organize, and analyze data from various sources of, but not limited to, university database systems and outside agencies to help gauge the effectiveness of university operations and programs. Prepare comprehensive data sets to support institutional management. This may require the use of analytical tools such as Cognos, SQL, SPSS, MS Excel, and other data reporting tools and programming languages such as Python. Provide reporting support and detailed data sets to the Lead Analyst in IR as well as to SOU faculty and staff toward their efforts in research projects, enrollment reporting, accreditation requirements, and other mandated reporting of SOU academic data. , Update institutional data sets in support of institutional research responsibilities. Maintain documentation on sources and methodology of data collection efforts. Manage an inventory and schedule of external and internal surveys conducted. , Assist in publishing and maintaining the IR Websites and the annual university fact book.
