Summary Position
The Director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning supports faculty and staff educators in enhancing teaching and learning through educational development and faculty mentoring programs, resources, and internal grants. The Director will work closely with the CATL team along with a wide range of University constituencies, including the Core Curriculum, Office for Inclusive Excellence Education and Development, Writing Across the University, and Teaching and Learning Technologies, as well as with deans, departments and interdisciplinary programs, and faculty at all phases of their academic careers as Teacher-Scholars.The Director holds a full-time 12-month position and reports to the Associate Provost for Faculty Development. They should expect to teach one course per year and will be eligible for a faculty appointment in an academic department at Elon at a rank dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Will supervise assistant and associate directors of CATL, and student workers. Will serve as a secondary supervisor for program coordinator.

Experience facilitating faculty development programs linked to teaching, learning, and curricular initiatives;
Relevant administrative experience;
A strong record as a teacher-scholar in higher education;
Knowledge of best practices in learning and program assessment;
Connections to national or international networks in teaching, learning, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and/or faculty development.
A terminal degree.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to faculty development programs that build capacity for and community around excellence in teaching and engaged learning, Manage the programs, operations, staff, and budget of the Center, Collaborate with the Centers staff and its Advisory Committee to develop and enact the Centers mission, Consult with individual faculty members in their efforts to be inclusive, effective, critically reflective, and innovative teacher-scholars, Work in partnership with departments, programs, and schools/colleges on pedagogical and curricular initiatives on engaged, inclusive, and scholarly teaching and learning, Advance and support scholarly teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning, Participate in and facilitate University-wide initiatives on teaching and learning, Pursue ongoing professional development and scholarly activity related to teaching and learning, and Connect Elon with regional, national, and international organizations and initiatives on teaching and learning and faculty development.



Education and Experience
A compelling vision for sustaining and growing a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning center in a manner consistent with Elons mission, strategic plan, and culture, Experience facilitating faculty development programs linked to teaching, learning, and curricular initiatives, Relevant administrative experience, A strong record as an effective teacher-scholar at the post-secondary level, Excellent written and interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills, Knowledge of effective, evidence-based, inclusive teaching and learning and program assessment practices, Connections to national or international networks in teaching, learning, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and/or faculty development, and A terminal degree.
