Position Summary:

The Mental Health Triage Counselor will report to the Executive Director of the Student Health & Wellness Center (SHWC). The Mental Health Triage Counselor will provide triage to determine service needs of students, same day appointments, mental health case management, coordination, crisis intervention and follow-up for SOU students with complex mental health needs. The Mental Health Triage Counselor provides continuity of care through the coordination of on-campus and off-campus health services and support resources. The Mental Health Triage Counselor will also develop collaborative relationships with SOU campus partners and Jackson County community providers.

Minimum Classification Qualifications:

Master's Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field

Licensed or registered as an intern as a social worker or professional counselor in the State of Oregon

Two years' experience providing clinical counseling, group facilitation, case management, crisis intervention, conducting risk assessments, and/or care coordination

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a college or university counseling center

All Listed Duties:

Clinical responsibilities:

Provide triage, same day appointments and crisis intervention to students who are requesting mental health services at the Student Health & Wellness Center.

Provide mental health counseling.

Coordinate with mental health team to develop appropriate types of groups relevant to our student population.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions.

Assist in tracking students referred to the community and communicates with them as needed about continuity of care.

In coordination with the Office of the Dean of Students, work with students to address academic issues related to medical or mental health concerns, assist students requesting medical withdrawals, and other student concerns.

Assist medical team to provide referral, intervention and support to students receiving medical services.

Provide consultation services for all SHWC staff regarding case management needs of students of concern.

Outreach/Liaison Responsibility:

Assist students in the off-campus treatment referral process with guidance on issues such as insurance, transportation, selecting a therapist, and knowing what to expect from initial meetings. Advocates for students, as appropriate, in helping them access services.

Coordinate with community providers and agencies to expand and maintain referral networks and relationships.

Assist students in accessing health insurance benefits, including OHP, in order to obtain specialized or ongoing mental health or medical care. Assist uninsured students with accessing low-cost insurance coverage and community mental health resources.

Assists in improving internal and external referral processes.

Assists in on-campus referral processes as needed and maintains strong relationships with on-campus partners, particularly with the Office of the Dean of Students.

Provide presentations requested by SOU programs related to the services provided by the SHWC.

Administrative Duties:

Attend all relevant staff meetings

Attend other committees as assigned

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for
occasional professional development.

Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet
special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on
an emergency basis.

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
