The Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine (CCVM) at Oregon State University is seeking a Director of the Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (OVDL). The successful candidate will be hired on a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month basis, holding a 0.50 FTE professional faculty position as Director of the OVDL, and a 0.50 FTE tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or full Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, depending on qualifications.
The CCVM provides professional and graduate programs for veterinary students, leading to DVM, MS, and PhD degrees, operates both a Large and a Small Animal Teaching Hospital, and the OVDL. The College operates within a total budget (from all sources) of approximating $28 million annually, which supports educational programs, veterinary medical and diagnostic public services, and research programs with broad impacts related to animal and human health. The College employs approximately 210 faculty and staff, plus student workers.
The OVDL is a state-supported regional facility and an integral part of the CCVM. It provides a full-range of diagnostic services for the College, practicing veterinarians in the state and region, wildlife officials, livestock, poultry and pet owners, biomedical researchers and public agencies in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences, an integral component of the College of Veterinary Medicine, provides instruction to students in a professional veterinary medical program leading to a DVM degree, in MS and PhD degree programs, and provides diagnostic services through the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Statewide diagnostics services benefit practicing veterinarians, wildlife officials, livestock and poultry industries, and pet owners. Research is of economic and public health significance, aimed at improving human and animal health and welfare, and of particular importance to the State of Oregon and the nation.
As the Director of the OVDL, a service unit of the CCVM, and the incumbent is responsible for operations and management of the facility. The OVDL strives to provide accurate results in a timely fashion and emphasizes communication between our diagnosticians and clients. The OVDL seeks to continually improve and expand services to meet the needs of a diverse clientele. Quality customer service is paramount.
As an Associate or full Professor, the incumbent provides instruction in their area of training and expertise as part of the professional curriculum of the college and provides technical expertise to support the public service mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The incumbent will participate in the daily operations of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The incumbent will develop extramurally funded research programs in their area of training or expertise.
Typically requires Ph.D. or terminal degree in related field. Tenure/tenure-track faculty member.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. For hires at the Associate Professor rank, prior tenured faculty experience at the Associate Professor level in an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine. For hires at the full Professor rank, prior tenured faculty experience at the full Professor level in an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine. Five years of professional experience in veterinary diagnostic laboratory medicine, providing diagnostic services as well as consultations with clients, or relevant work experience. Five years directing or supervising experience. Demonstrated administrative and management abilities. Diplomate status in AVMA-approved specialty related to diagnostics. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and creating an inclusive environment for students, staff, faculty and clients. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. This position may require non-standard hours including evening and weekend call.
