The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located12 miles westof the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. A full-time Research Assistant 2 position is available at the Oregon National Primate Research Center in the Department of Neuroscience. This will be a multifaceted position that primarily focuses on the effects of vaping in pregnancy as well as effects in youth and adults using mouse models with a focus on pulmonary function. The positionwill involve general laboratory duties as well as general work with mice and pulmonary function tests in mice. The position will also involve assisting with other ongoing nonhuman primate studies as needed. Position will also involve a variety of molecular assays on collected samples and data analysis. Position will involve independent and knowledgeable application of the following skills: general laboratory procedures and maintenance, sample collection and processing, working with mice and monkeys, and assisting primary staff in set up and execution of experiments.
Bachelors Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research
Perform work in laboratory settings and with animals, with potential risk of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, human and monkey tissues, biohazardous agents, and dry ice
Ability to physically perform tasks involving: collection of samples, processing of samples, feeding animals and other laboratory procedures
Ability to work at a laboratory bench standing and sitting for up to four hour periods
Ability to lift 50 lbs safely
Work in close physical quarters
Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Bachelors degree in biology, neuroscience or health-related field
1-2 years relevant research experience in a laboratory setting
Experience with animal research
Experience with working with mice or monkeys
Experience with a variety of general laboratory, molecular and immunohistochemical techniques
Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research, with demonstrated experience in problem-solving
