The Network Dynamics and Synthetic Biology group at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks highly motivated and collaborative applicants to fill a Research Technician position in synthetic biology. Projects will target one of the major bottlenecks in the rational design of synthetic biocircuits: scalability. The main goal is the development of a combined theoretical/experimental framework to accurately predict the complex behaviors that emerge when parts are interconnected, thus accounting for various sources of context-dependence, such as the sharing of limited resources. Additionally, projects in the lab also center around controlling cellular behavior both by developing genetic control circuits as well as external computer-based solutions using machine learning and optogenetics. Typically, projects involve the design and synthesis of DNA libraries containing multiple variants of synthetic gene constructs, which are then tested in an integrated experimental/computational approach using the model organism E. coli. Candidates are welcome to propose projects related to the work done in the lab. Members of our interdisciplinary team will leverage experiments to inform modeling/theoretical analysis and vice versa. For more information, visit https://netb.io/. The position is available immediately with a flexible start date, initially for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance.
Who should apply? The ideal candidate is self-motivated and hard-working with a BA/BS/MA/MS in synthetic biology, bioengineering, cellular biology, biophysics, quantitative/systems biology, or in a related field. The position requires experience in molecular and cell biology. Experience working with microplate readers and flow cytometers is desired, but not required. Successful candidates will take part in collaborative projects involving multiple laboratories from the US and Europe. Excellent communication skills in English, ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and scientific creativity are essential. We seek driven and enthusiastic individuals with a proven track record of independent research whose priority is to excel in their career while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
How to apply? Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, prepare in PDF format: (1) cover letter summarizing research experience and specific interest in the position; (2) curriculum vitae including full list of publications; and (3) the names and contact details of two or three references. If you have any questions, please contact Andras Gyorgy at email@example.com.
Salary The position provides salary higher than internationally competitive rates, in addition to substantial benefits (generous housing, transportation and travel allowances), together with full health insurance and retirement contributions. The UAE does not levy income tax.
