The Beatty Lab at OHSU is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant 2 (RA 2) to conduct research using chemical probes to study bacterial pathogens.
The RA2 will be part of an interdisciplinary team studying enzyme regulation in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other mycobacterial species. This NIAID-funded project combines enzyme biochemistry, proteomics, microbiology, and chemistry to make new discoveries. Responsibilities include:
Contributes to the scientific direction and planning for a project within the lab
Performs research experiments, maintaines detailed records, analyzes data and documents results
Maintains lab equipment and supplies amd assists in ordering materials and supplies
This position is well-suited for a researcher who would like to gain new hands-on experience in a variety of research areas and techniques. Projects will expose the candidate to numerous methods used in chemical biology and chemistry.
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or related field OR Associate's degree and 3 years of relevant experience
Comfortable working independently and alongside other researchers
Excellent reading and writing skills
Ability to learn methods quickly and work independently
Proficient with MS Office Suite, especially MS Excel
Advanced degree in biochemistry
Research experience in biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, BSL-2 (or BSL-3) bacterial culture, and protein purification
Experience or course work in molecular biology methods, including CRISPR/Cas9
Proven ability to conduct research experiments
Experience and/or interest in proteomics and infectious diseases
Familiarity with bioconjugation chemistry, fluorescence microscopy, and/or mammalian cell culture
Familiarity with experimental design, including replicates, controls, and reproducibility
