The Research Assistant 2 conducts research involving expression of the COVID-19 spike protein for the development of antibody tests for COVID-19 infection in human blood. The position will involve manipulating and producing plasmid DNAs, which will be transfected into 293 cells to produce expression of various forms of the spike protein. The spike proteins will be purified using protein tags using affinity purification techniques. In addition, this purification will involve FPLC purification with sizing and ion exchange chromatography.The Research Assistant 2 will receive general supervision by a Senior Research Associate in assisting with performing standardized, routine procedures and tests and analyzing data. Responsibilities include:
Assist in manipulating and producing plasmid DNAs
Assist in protein purification
Perform other projects as assigned or requested by supervisor
Bachelor's Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research; OR Associate's degree (2 yr) and 3 years of relevant experience
Some laboratory experience with manipulating and expressing plasmids and with mammalian cell culture and transfection of cells
Experience with protein purification
