The Assistant Dean for Simulation and Academic Technology reports to and advises the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, leading on statewide strategy, innovation, research, and evaluation for graduate and undergraduate simulation and academic technology in support of pedagogy, including distance learning. The position provides oversight for the Portland campus simulation based learning and skills lab and statewide oversight for faculty and staff development in meeting national standards and in the use of simulation and technology, advancing innovative learning centered pedagogies throughout the various curricula.
The Assistant Dean for Simulation and Academic Technology represents the SON on the OHSU Simulation Steering Committee and promotes simulation and skills lab innovation on all campuses. The Assistant Dean provides administrative oversight for all statewide simulation and technology initiatives.
Technology and Simulation Development
Advances the SON as a state and national leader in simulation and technology supported learning centered pedagogies.
Develops a plan for advancing simulation and technology in undergraduate through doctoral level programs that meet the clinical and scientific needs of Oregonians and beyond.
Assesses and advances simulation and academic technology opportunities and aligns opportunities with faculty and program development.
Collaborates with the TLC and across OHSU programs to advance interprofessional practice and education using simulation and other academic technologies.
Tests new models for technology supported pedagogies and simulation in course/clinical delivery that evaluate faculty and student experiences and optimize learning.
Seeks multi-source grant and other funding to advance simulation and technology-supported practices.
Pioneers simulation and technology in curricula to enhance access, improve faculty/staff/student experiences, and optimize outcomes.
Advances scholarship and science in simulation and technology supported learning centered pedagogies.
Human and Fiscal Resource Management
Sets performance standards and provides oversight to ensure high quality performance and learning outcomes in statewide simulation and academic technology.
Assesses emerging simulation and other technologies, sharing with academic leaders and leads timely planning, development, and implementation.
Provides administrative oversight for all statewide simulation and technology initiatives.
Administrative Oversight and Functions
Serves on relevant SON, the OHSU Simulation Steering committee and other university councils and committees for academic technology and simulation.
Serves as a liaison to the RLSB, ViruOHSU, and North OR simulation centers.
Participates in long-range forecasting activities for program, faculty/staff, and equipment needs, monitors and ensure compliance with strategic, operational, and budget plans.
Collaborates with Campus Associate Deans and program directors to provide for the integration and representation of each location where the school of nursing serves.
Supervises key faculty, professional and support staff that are inherent in simulation and technology functions.
Prepares professional communications that are critical to the technology and simulation functions.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.
Licensed in professional nursing in the State of Oregon
Earned doctorate in nursing or related field with five years of progressive experience in higher education; eligible for rank at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level
Certificated as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE)
Demonstrated experience in leading change in academic settings
Demonstrated experience in simulation and academic technology applications to nursing education in a variety of programs/levels
Demonstrated experience in setting performance standards, developing metrics, and in program evaluation
Ability to inspire change, equal ability to be visible and comfortable in urban, rural, and frontier communities and across the care continuum.
Ability to balance academic decorum with approachability and accessibility for faculty, student, academic, and community stakeholders.
