This position is part of the Clinical Education Services (CES) team, which is a section of Human Resources. CES is dedicated to facilitating new employee orientation, education, training, staff development and competency assessment across the OHSU clinical enterprise. Educational offerings support the organization in meeting its strategic goals related to clinical quality, safety, service, and employee engagement.
The Nurse Educator is responsible for positively influencing the quality of patient care by partnering with colleagues to identify educational needs and to develop appropriate methodologies to ensure employee knowledge/competency. The purpose of this position is to fill a vacant position with new skills, knowledge, and experience. This person will utilize an educational design process and serve as an expert educator, consultant and project manager. The Nurse Educator also employs the Professional Practice Model, transferring knowledge to others as a Scientist, Practitioner and Leader.
Education, Training and Competency Assessment
Designs and delivers curriculum, presentation materials, on-line modules and handouts for select course offerings and programs, such as:
Orientation of nurses and other clinical support staff
Charge Nurse Workshops
Basic Life Support (BLS) courses
Incorporates knowledge of Adult Learning Theory into curriculum design.
Ensures that training materials meet instructional objectives and quality standards.
Plans scheduling, timing and frequency of classes in collaboration with CES Director, along with unit/clinic/department Managers and Professional Practice Leaders.
Manages class registrations and arranges classroom space.
Develops and administers competency assessments, when applicable, and analyzes the results, continually improving training.
Documents training completion in an approved system.
Contributes education and training materials to the CES web site.
Participates in the review of course content to determine if it qualifies for continuing nursing education contact hours.
Committee and Project Participation:
Represents the CES team or the Human Resources department on appointed interdisciplinary and nursing committees, serving as an education consultant to ensure that identified staff learning needs are addressed.

Bachelor of Science Nursing required
Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) required, MSN-ED preferred.
Strong clinical experience, including knowledge of clinical quality, safety and infection control principles.
Teaching or training experience in a healthcare setting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups.
Experience using an electronic health record.
