The Southern Oregon University (SOU), Division of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Chemistry program invites applications for an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Biochemistry, for spring term. The successful candidate will be responsible for the biochemistry lectures and labs and may also have the opportunity to teach general and/or organic chemistry labs. The Chemistry Program values supportive interactions with students and the successful candidate should demonstrate the desire to teach and advise undergraduates with diverse learning styles and backgrounds. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field. ABD will be considered. Postdoctoral experience and/or college level teaching experience is highly desirable. Southern Oregon University is a public liberal arts institution of approximately 6,000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students. The surrounding area is known for cultural offerings such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Ashland International Film Festival, and the Britt Music Festival. The Rogue Valley is also renowned for outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, and fishing.
Review of candidates will begin immediately with an anticipated start date of 03/16/2020. Position will remain open until filled.
Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Post-doctoral experience working with undergraduates in a research lab setting.
Documented evidence of successfully teaching sufficient courses to equate to at least one year of full-time teaching
Documented experience teaching college-level biochemistry lectures and labs.
Familiarity with ACS undergraduate student expectations in biochemistry.
Experience mentoring undergraduates seeking admission to graduate and professional schools.
More than one year of teaching in higher education teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching and supervising undergraduate students, including students from diverse backgrounds.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
