Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) offers one of the most forward-looking educational environments in dental medicine in the country. The Billing Team, along with other members of the Finance and Administration team, supports the financial management and administration of the dental school. This position reports directly to the Billing Manager and works closely with the clinics it supports: Faculty Practice, Craniofacial Pain and Sleep Center, Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Tufts Dental Facilities, Tufts Community Dental Program and Clinic Business Operations.
Faculty Practice (FP) is a Multi-Specialty group dental practice that affords full-time faculty the opportunity to practice dentistry and oral surgery at TUSDM. FP consists of faculty members practicing, with the facilities provided by the University and those practicing in affiliated hospitals.
The Craniofacial Pain Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex painful disorders of the head and neck region. The mission of our Center is to provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, a concise and coordinated management plan in a holistic, integrated biomedical patient-focused manner.
The Oral Medicine Clinic is dedicated to improving the quality of life in high risk and medically compromised populations by engaging in basic and translational research to promote general health through good oral health practices.
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is a dentistry specialty that deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates that causes, processes, and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology includes research, diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical or other examinations and management of patients.
Tufts Dental Facilities for Persons with Special Needs (TDF) is a network of seven outpatient clinics that provides dental care to approximately 7,000 developmentally disabled patients in the state of Massachusetts under the umbrella of TUSDM and in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Additional patient treatment is provided in the operating room setting at four affiliated hospitals within the state. The TDF program also provides a venue for teaching General Practice Residents through the Tufts GPR Program and 4th year dental students from TUSDM.
Tufts Community Dental Program (TCDP) is a mobile program that provides dental services to children at schools across the state of Massachusetts that otherwise would not have access to dental care.
Clinic Business Operations (CBO) supports the clinical and education efforts within the Pre-doctoral, Postgraduate and Specialty clinical treatment areas of the School and is responsible for all patient care services billing for these clinics, as well as supporting IRB clinical study patients and maintaining CITI certification. The Postgraduate Clinics (residents) are the Specialty Clinics, which includes: Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The Billing Administrator, in conjunction with the Billing Manager, oversees the Dental School Clinics' daily billing operations and is responsible for the overall management of all aspects of billing practices. This position has a direct impact to clinic revenue. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that all billing aspects are in compliance and processed timely and appropriately following all applicable dental/medical billing guidelines and implements changes as guidelines dictate. This includes identifying opportunities to reduce denials and enhance revenue. Responsible for managing the functions of accounts receivable, revenue collection, insurance billing, patient billing, payment posting and billing account adjustments. Additionally, the individual needs to have the ability to prioritize duties/tasks in a fast-paced environment with numerous competing deadlines.
The Billing Administrator is the first-line resource for billing team questions and concerns and reports directly to the Billing Manager, supervising Billing Leads, Billing Coordinators, Billing Assistants, and any other billing support staff positions.
Bachelor's degree and finance or accounting experience and/or 5 - 7 years of experience and knowledge of dental/medical billing and familiarity with Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Word; demonstrated knowledge of insurance and dental patient care systems.
Candidate must have 2+ years' experience verifying, processing and troubleshooting insurance claims and/or analyzing patient or financial accounts.
Must have the ability to prioritize and meet concurrent deadlines.

Dental Coder Certification required with 6 months of employment.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Certified Dental Coder (CDC) applicant with 7+ years of dental insurance coding/billing and revenue cycle management experience.
Knowledge of third-party billing: MassHealth and Medicare regulations and guidelines, as well as commercial dental insurance coding/billing practices.
Expert level with ADA codes, applicable CPT Codes and ICD-10 Codes.
Experience in a fast-paced dental/medical setting.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Knowledge axiUm/Dentrix software.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Dental Clinics, 40 hour work week, hours are Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
