The OHSU registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The RNs care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics and meets the standards/expectations of a Professional Practice Model.. In that model, the RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor. Professional accountability enriches the RNs engagement as a leader in promoting a inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork.
The echocardiography (Echo) lab provides care to adult patients over the age of 18 [unless BMI is indication of adult body (with age <18). Attending MD will be present for those procedures]. Procedures include: transthoracic echo, exercise stress echo, pharmacological stress echo, and the exercise and/or pharmacological stress portion of nuclear perfusion tests. The RNs administer the medications and monitor the patients response to the procedures. Transesophageal echo is done under conscious sedation in the Interventional Recovery Unit. The echocardiography lab is staffed Mon-Fri, 8:00AM to 5:00PM for routine and scheduled testing both at Center for Health and Healing and Sam Jackson Hall. Inpatient coverage is provided on Saturdays, 8:00AM to 4:30PM.
Specialty Experience: 4 weeks
Experience but not in specialty area: 6-8 weeks
Current unencumbered OR RN License.
BSN required for external applicants, BSN preferred for current OHSU RN's.
Current BLS and ACLS required upon hire.
Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English.
Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools.
Knowledge of cardiac and cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures
Proficiency in obtaining and reading 12-lead ECGs
Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period.
Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking.
Able to lift 35 lbs.
Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
