The School of Social Work at Portland State University seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Practice Field Specialist position who are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and committed to social work field education. The School of Social Work partners with many public and nonprofit organizations statewide in order to provide BSW and MSW students high quality field education experiences. Our School works with students throughout the State, including program locations in Southern, Central, Eugene and Salem as well through our online program option, to educate and train professional social workers.
The Field Specialist will collaborate with the statewide field team on the curricular development and delivery of the field seminar, serve as a field liaison providing professional and academic advising, consult to resolve conflicts, deliver orientations and trainings, provide service to the community and participate in all aspects of the field placement process. Candidates who demonstrate an interest in and ability to realize the mission, values, and vision of the School are strongly encouraged to apply. We seek applicants with professional experience in field education, teaching and/or training, and whose work has actively engaged in racial equity and social justice. This is a 12 month, full time, 1.0 FTE, non-tenure track, Assistant Professor of Practice faculty position. The position includes a combination of teaching and administrative responsibilities and is scheduled to begin March 2, 2020.
- Master's in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work - Minimum of 3 years of post Master's practice experience - Minimum of 2 years teaching experience - Minimum of 2 years of social service administrative experience in a human services field and/or higher ed - Two or more years of any of the following: a. BSW/MSW Field Instructor; or b. Field Liaison; or c. Social Work Educator, Trainer or Community Member in service to social work higher education - Understanding of human service and social work education needs in rural areas and communities outside the Portland metro area - Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and/or related frameworks - Demonstrated ability to work on teams and in collaboration with diverse stakeholders (i.e. students, faculty, community partners, etc.) - Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Oregon or eligible for clinical licensure - Minimum of 2 years experience as a Field Instructor for MSW and/or BSW Students - Experience assisting in the development and implementation of an educational or skills based training curriculum - Familiarity with undergraduate/graduate social work curriculum - Knowledge of and collaborative relationships with statewide agencies, programs and systems that may serve as potential social work field internship sites
