The University of Saint Joseph's Department of Chemistry invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in support of the chemistry, biochemistry, biology and allied health science majors as well as graduate courses for the department's masters' programs in chemistry and biochemistry beginning in August 2020. The University of Saint Joseph's Department of Chemistry has online master's programs in both Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as an ACS approved chemistry program and an ASBMB accredited biochemistry program.
Responsibilities include teaching lectures and laboratories in the introductory, organic and/or the biochemistry sequences for science majors and allied health science majors. Teaching in the on-line Masters' programs is also expected. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a research program leading to publications and possibly to external funding with the potential of involving undergraduate chemistry and biochemistry majors.
The position requires an earned doctorate in chemistry or biochemistry or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates whose specialty areas are organic chemistry or biochemistry. Strong ABD candidates will be considered. Candidates with postdoctoral experiences are preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching both organic chemistry and biochemistry at the undergraduate level. Applicants with teaching experience, familiarity with innovative teaching methods that focus on student engagement and inclusivity with the ability to reach diverse learners and a strong desire to teach on-line courses along with a working knowledge of on-line classroom management will be given priority.
