Functions as Research Computing IT Lead for SimCenter: Center of Excellence in Applied Computational Science and Engineering. Also serves as an HPC specialist and HPC Systems Administrator for the University with a particular focus on the SimCenter and other research computing operations. Maintains all datacenter-related resources for the faculty, staff, and students supported by the SimCenter including software, servers and server virtualization, tape-backup system, large storage arrays. Provides 24x7 support for these resources, reachable by personal cell-phone. In collaboration with SimCenter researchers, designs, evaluates, purchases, installs, and maintains software and hardware computer resources, as well as testing and implementing new technologies. Functions as head of IT security within the Multidisciplinary Research building (MDRB) and SimCenter. Local Administrator of door-entry systems including swipe-card and keypad systems. Performs user add/delete/modify and password resets for all systems within the building. Manages and directs Graduate Assistants who who help maintain various systems and provide user support. Monitors and instructs undergraduate assistants in use of hardware and software. Maintains working relationships with hardware/software vendors to keep abreast of new technologies/products that may benefit the students, faculty and staff. Must be able to support ITAR/Export Controlled and other restricted data environments, protocols, and procedures.
Also fills a role in various computational research projects, usually as a Co-PI, with expertise in the area of HPC, distributed computing, and related areas as appropriate.
