Department Summary The UO Department of Human Physiology is home to undergraduate and graduate students who desire strong training in human physiology and anatomy that will prepare them for careers in medicine, allied health professions, and biomedical research.
Position Summary The Bowerman Sports Science Clinic is seeking a part-time, funding contingent Research Associate. This position is only funded through February, 2019. Under the direction of Dr. Michael Hahn, the Bowerman Sports Science Clinic conducts research on the biomechanics of locomotion and the physiological outcomes of exercise. Current projects are focused on lower leg strength and balance control, and neuromotor adaptation to novel locomotion states. The Research Associate will coordinate the daily activities of the laboratory related to the current studies, specifically managing the recruitment and enrollment of new research participants and overseeing the daily data collections, including motion capture, force platform, strength measurement, and metabolic assessment systems. The position will require the candidate to make independent decisions involving the selection of a course of action from a number of possible alternatives after considerations of each, made freely without direction or supervision with respect to matters of significance.
Minimum Requirements • Terminal degree in Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Bioengineering, Neuroscience, or related field. • Work or graduate school experience in a research laboratory performing human subjects experiments. • Experience writing and/or amending IRB Human Subjects protocols.
Professional Competencies • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with emphasis on muscular, neural, and cardiorespiratory functions. • Basic computer skills, including proficiency using Excel.
Preferred Qualifications • PhD degree in Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Bioengineering, Neuroscience, or related field. • Experience coordinating large sample human subjects research studies. • Proficient in performing motion capture, strength testing, performance physiology testing, electromyographic testing. • Proficient in programming using Matlab, LabView, R, Python, or equivalent.
