Department Summary The Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE2) facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The Phillips lab conducts research on the structure and evolution of the genes and genomic elements underlying complex phenotypic traits such as behavior, sexual reproduction, life history, stress resistance, and longevity.
Position Summary Postdoctoral research fellowship in biodemography and/or the biology of aging.
Provide research leadership for a set of projects aimed at investigating demographic variation within and between species from the standpoint of understanding the effects of compounds that extend individual lifespan and/or the causes and consequences of genetic, environmental and stochastic variation in reproductive patterns among individuals. This work is supported by multiple NIH grants, including the Caenorhabditis Intervention Testing Program (CITP) and a special program in biodemography. These projects involve the use microfluidic devices and automated lifespan scanners to generate the largest and highest precision demographic database ever assembled for an animal system.
The ideal candidate would have strong quantitative skills and a desire to investigate fundamental questions in aging biology and demography using advanced approaches for survival and demographic analysis.
Minimum Requirements PhD in Biology, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
Professional Competencies Familiarity with advanced statistical analysis packages, such as R.
Preferred Qualifications Record of high quality research scholarship as evidenced by professional publications, independent research funding, and/or similar accomplishments.
