The Assistant Director for Business Services is responsible for ensuring business operations of the Facilities and Property Management (FPM) department are efficient, effective and appropriately focused on FPM's customer service driven mission and values. With total budgetary oversight for over $5,000,000, the Assistant Director for Business Services leads an exceptionally talented team of approximately 11 full-time administrative staff, skilled trades people and managers and 15 student employees. Additionally, this position oversees the administration and management of PSU's custodial contracts with a contracted custodial staff of over 80 employees who serve approximately 5 million square feet of classrooms, laboratories, offices, auditoriums, gymnasiums, health clinics, rest rooms, residence halls and apartments.
The major responsibilities of this position include direction of significant functional areas of the department, including the FPM Work Control Center; IT support; administration and management of department-wide training initiatives; management of the University key system; business process review and improvement initiatives; human resources support; marketing and communications; budget development and monitoring; and development and oversight of processes and procedures.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Facilities and Property Management and requires using considerable independent judgment, discretion, and initiative in carrying out daily operations.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field.
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, program performance management, and/or general business operations.
At least three years of supervisory responsibility.
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
Demonstrated ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with key stakeholders, employees, other business units and departments, outside agencies, and the general public.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, leadership, customer service, and personnel management.
Demonstrated proficiency in conflict resolution and negotiation.
Proven ability to plan, organize, and monitor activities according to priorities, established schedules, and deadlines.
Proven ability to provide leadership, counsel, motivation, and constructive performance reviews to staff.
Demonstrated skill in identifying emerging issues, developing and implementing new approaches, and/or refining the organizational structure to generate desired results as efficiently as possible.
Demonstrated ability to make prompt decisions on complex matters and make evaluations concerning day-to-day operations.
Proven ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Human Resources Management Certification from an accredited university or professional organization.
