This position is funded as two years of a 12-month appointment by Shifrer's CAREER award from the National Science Foundation (1652279, $877,836), a prestigious award in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education. This funding supports Shifrer's research on the school and teacher factors that reduce disparities by socioeconomic status, race, and disability in adolescents' math and science progress using data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009, which follows a nationally representative cohort of US 9th graders from 2009.
The successful applicant will apply data management, statistical analysis, literature review, and writing skills to produce peer-reviewed journal articles. The researcher's work will also be supported by Shifrer's growing team of graduate research assistants, undergraduates, and a national network of collaborators. Funding to attend one conference each year is included. This position has no teaching requirements.
A PhD in a relevant discipline.
Evidence of research experience in a relevant area.
The ability to lead and co-author research publications.
Relevant demonstrated quantitative skills in Stata (e.g., data management, multilevel modelling, longitudinal modelling).
Ability to take initiative and work independently but also effectively work collaboratively.
Four or more years of progressively responsible research experience.
