The Native Health Scholars Intern will be working with the Tribal Health Scholars team to coordinate the NNACoE Tribal Health Scholars Program. This program works with tribal communities to identify 3-5 high school students to shadow the many healthcare careers available at the local tribal or Indian Health Service clinic over a 13-week period. Each high school scholar is paired with a health pathway coach from the NNACoE to check in weekly and support them in their journey to a healthcare related field.
This 9-month internship was created for a recent college graduate interested in Native American health and pursuing a healthcare related field (medicine, public health, medical education, etc). The internship will provide an MCAT prep course (driving to Eugene, Oregon required), guaranteed spot in the NNACoE Pre-Admissions workshop, and a monthly meeting with Indigenous faculty to discuss their career goals. The intern will also be required to participate in scholarly work including an academic paper and commentary, as well as representing NNACoE at one national AI/AN youth conference.
