The Center for Applied Systems & Software (CASS) is seeking a Systems Development Engineer. This is a full-time 1.0 FTE, 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
As a part of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science's efforts to provide experiential learning opportunities to students, the Center for Applied Systems and Software (CASS)'s Software Development Group (SoftDev) hires and trains students in developing all the necessary skills to provide quality software solutions to solve real world problems of its customers.
This position is involved in enterprise software and systems engineering and requires considerable independent judgment.
The individual in this position, and the student software development team that they manage, provide custom software solutions that support academic and non-academic units at OSU, as well as state agencies and other clients.
The Systems Development Engineering position requires interacting with, leading, mentoring, and bringing together a diverse group of community members, including a variety of student team members.

Work is varied and highly technical, utilizing state-of-the-art tools and technologies.
The position is intellectually challenging, requires integration of a variety of technologies and technical writing skills, including but not limited to technical designs, requirements, specifications and test cases.
The Systems Development Engineer position often acts as a team lead on multiple projects simultaneously across all aspects of the software engineering practice.
Frequent client interaction and some introductory project management are essential
Typically requires Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience in object oriented programming, SQL Server databases, web application development/server administration, multi-tiered database application systems, and .NET Development Platform, including Active Directory, C#, and Visual Studio. Familiarity with mobile development and open source platforms.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrable work experience using:
—Object Oriented Programming; —Web Application Design and Development —Business and Systems Analysis
Demonstrable experience with modern server technologies, in particular, server operating systems and web server technologies.
Demonstrable experience with modern desktop technologies, including desktop operating systems and maintenance.
Effective communication skills and confidence to make presentations and participate in group discussions.
Technical writing skills sufficient to write technical documentation, specifications documentation, test plan and test case documentation, software architecture modeling, and to model business process flows.
Demonstrable experience and commitment to working with and bringing together a diverse group of people within a team environment.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
