The School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate (Post Doc) position with expertise in discrete element method modeling and strong programming skills (C++/Python). Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean and contingent upon performance and continued funding.
The position is expected to start on September 1, 2019. Duties will include performing research in the areas of particulate modeling, granular mechanics, and impact on flexible structures. The candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish the results in high caliber, peer reviewed journals; periodically lead lectures and labs for geotechnical engineering courses; aide in the supervision and training of research assistants; assist with the development of research proposals; and participate in a variety of outreach activities.
Requires PhD or terminal degree and experience in the academic discipline/unit.
Ph.D. degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
Strong commitment to collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Strong publication record in prestigious peer-reviewed journals
Extensive research experience and the ability to work effectively on several projects
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Expertise with discrete element method modeling
Experience with computer programming (C++/Python), algorithm development, and scripting
Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity (e.g., mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, fostering positive and affirming faculty interactions across difference, challenging structural/cultural barriers that limit movement towards social equality in engineering education and practice).
