The University of Tennessee Health Science College of Dentistry is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position within the Department of Periodontology as Dental Hygienist who will work with students during clinical rotations on campus at the University Of Tennessee Health Science Center College Of Dentistry (UTHSC-COD). Rank determined by experience and background. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of current technologies used in the clinic and appropriate to the area of instruction. Possess knowledge of, and demonstrates proficiency in, current concepts in non-surgical periodontal therapy.
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the periodontology department chairperson, undergraduate clinical director, undergraduate administrative director, clinical periodontology faculty, and department of general practice faculty.
The candidate will be responsible for the dental clinical instruction in the areas of non-surgical periodontal therapy including ultrasonic scalers, laser therapy and hand instrumentation skills, exposing and interpretation of digital radiographs, patient and operator ergonomics, oral hygiene instructions, product recommendations, caries risk assessment, nutritional counseling, infection control, evaluation of clinical procedures, and assist group leader/periodontist with periodontal treatment planning.
Interested candidates should possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and five years clinical dental hygiene practice, licensed to practice Dental Hygiene in the state of Tennessee, or be eligible for licensure in the state of Tennessee.
Additionally, licensed to provide local anesthesia and monitor nitrous oxide analgesia as outlined in the Tennessee State Dental Practice Act and current CPR Certification.
Additionally, the dental hygiene instructor will rotate half a day to the Family Dental Practice.
