Summary Description: Student Life’s top priorities are to help students leave WPU prepared to get great jobs and live lives of purpose. The Director of Career and Professional Development is a full-time, benefit eligible position reporting to the Vice President for Student Life. This role serves as a central leader in the work it takes to make that happen. This leader will be a proactive connector who will create programs to further develop students’ sense of purpose and job search competencies and actively network with students, faculty, staff, and the community to deliver on a vibrant career development program. This role includes a combination of mentorship, program development, and administrative planning and requires a self-starter who is willing to own, develop, and implement programs to help WPU’s traditional, adult, and graduate students build upon their competencies and confidence so they can thrive in whatever is next after graduation.
Provide proactive occupational, vocational, and career guidance to students including counseling with job search and job application process, cover letter and resumes, interviews, networking, LinkedIn and social media skills, and graduate school application and selection, etc.
Develop comprehensive career network of alumni and potential employers.
Mentor and advise students concerning life planning and personal growth issues.
Coordinate career fairs and career workshops for professional, graduate, and traditional students.
Oversee Career and Calling Collaborative by convening campus partners (Student Success, FYLC, and Advising, etc.) and developing strategic initiatives and assessment toward the goal of developing a 4-year comprehensive plan for supporting students’ sense of purpose and employability upon graduation.
Promote, enhance, and manage Handshake career platform, including approval of job postings.
Manage and lead student worker staff as needed.
Partner with academic departments to develop and support internship placement programs.
Oversee first destination and student employment surveys in partnership with the Office of Institutional Assessment.
Supervise departmental budgets.
Participate as a University Mentor to first year and/or transfer students.
Participate in and contribute to regular Student Life staff meetings and all-Student Life events each semester.
Demonstrate presence and availability for student leaders and students you serve on campus.
Create timely, consistent, responsive, and effective communication to students, faculty, and staff concerning the activities and events in your area.
Practice regular collaboration with faculty, staff, and students across program areas on both the Mt. Tabor and Centre 205 campuses.
Be present in the office on a daily basis unless arrangements are made with the employee’s direct supervisor.
Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.
Adhere to University policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor degree required or minimum of four years experience in a higher education environment.
Knowledge and experience in career planning, professional development, and/or college student mentorship.
Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as necessary (campus events, pre-registration, etc.).
Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel, and the Internet.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Master degree in College Student Services or related field.
At least three years of experience working in student affairs.
Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently.
Ability to multi-task, work effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent self-motivation, written communication skills, and the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff.
Skill in effective oral communication and public presentations.
Experience with diverse, urban, and/or first-generation college students.
Spanish language competency.
Experience directing career services, academic support services, and/or students with disabilities services.
At least three years experience as a direct supervisor of employees and/or work study students.
Physical Demands – Work Environment:
The position is located in a typical office environment. Professional/business casual attire is required.
