Under direct supervision, you will aidin sample collection for the Thoracic Biorepository and its collaborators. Thisinvolves aiding in coordination of timing ofsample collections by communicating with the research coordination team,collecting samples, processing of samples, accuratelogging and storage of samples, sample inventory and data quality control, and communication with supporting corefacilities who further process samples. You will assist in fulfilling requestsfor samples, including tracking the status ofrequests, pulling them from the inventory and shipping them. You will alsoassist in general
laboratory operation, such as monitoringsupplies levels and requesting them to be ordered as needed, and updating SOPs asneeded to reflect current practices.
â¢ Under moderate supervision, monitorthe collections schedule and collect patient samples from the OR, surgical pathology,and patient clinics in a timely manner
â¢ Follow University safety protocols(may include use of combustibles, radioactivity, toxic material, and/orcarcinogens)
â¢ Understand and follow protocols(includes handling human samples)
â¢ Record accurate logs of incomingsamples and of sample locations in the inventory
â¢ Perform quality control checks of thesample inventory and sample data
â¢ Assist with fulfilling requests forsamples
â¢ Prepare, operate and troubleshootequipment in processing procedures
â¢ Read and follow all equipment manuals
â¢ Maintain and repair equipmentaccording to manufacturer and University guidelines
â¢ Ensure Laboratory is prepared forcollecting and processing samples
â¢ Maintain inventories
â¢ Maintain sterile conditions asrequired
â¢ Prepare reagents
â¢ Demonstrate an understanding ofacceptable procedures and techniques
