The Research Assistant 2 will provide support for the Molecular Virology Core (MVC) at the Oregon National Primate Research Center. The MVC performs virology-related research services for internal and external investigators. The Core supports a wide range of research in virology, immunology, and gene therapy. These include HIV/AIDS vaccine research, viral vectors for gene therapy studies, and diagnostics. The position occupant will receive general supervision and show innovation and problem solving as they become proficient in and conduct established and newly developed virology lab procedures. Service responsibilities will be for one or more phases of the following: general cell maintenance, virus propagation and titration, sample and tissue processing, and molecular diagnostic assays as needed. Some work may involve handling viruses under BSL-1, -2, and -2+ conditions. This position also participates in general laboratory upkeep and management, reagent and sample preparation, protocol and SOP writing, and data analysis/reporting.
