Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Access Services, this administrative position assists in the management of the mid-day, evening, and weekend operations of the Access Services Department (ASD) of Gumberg Library. Acting as the Administrator on Duty during non-regular library hours, the Access Services Manager organizes, delegates, and supervises the activities of the ASD. Demonstrating an enthusiastic and sincere dedication to the mission of Gumberg and Duquesne, the Access Services Manager leads with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills that focus on inclusion and relationship building. Necessary for this role are strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative and positive approach to problem solving. The Access Services Manager works a core set of hours, with the understanding that this position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department and the library.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely with other members of the ASD to facilitate day-to-day activities, implements new initiatives of the ASD that support inclusion, and encourages diversity, ensuring our practices put students first.
Directly supervises four part-time Evening and Weekend Supervisors: interviews, hires, trains, mentors, and evaluates. Indirectly supervises FT ASD staff, as needed and represents Access Services in the absence of the AUL of Access Services, including directly supervising all FT staff in Access Services.
As the Administrator on Duty, resolves user concerns, requests for special services, and queries about Access Services policies, while building positive and authentic relationships with library patrons and staff.
Provides evening and weekend support for Resource Sharing borrowing and lending services, and Course Reserves; provides circulation desk coverage and basic reference assistance as needed.
Shares responsibility for opening or closing the library if a Circulation Supervisor is not available.
Trains all library staff in building safety and evacuation procedures; serves as library liaison to the University Environmental Health and Safety Department and campus police.
Works closely with other library departments to develop innovative and welcoming services and programs.
Assists the AUL of Access Services with coordination and reconciliation of billing for ASD.
Participates in library and University-wide committees and events in meaningful ways that advance personal and professional development; demonstrates a willingness to participate in professional organizations such as the WPWVC-ACRL.
Performs related duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
Earned Bachelor's degree, at least two years of experience working in a public service area of an academic library with minimum one year of experience supervising staff OR any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.

Ability to maneuver 35 lb. book carts and move books, including reaching and lifting
