Department Summary The Labor Education and Research Center (LERC) at the University of Oregon was established in 1977 to provide skills training and educational services for working adults on issues concerning labor relations, collective bargaining and union education. LERC also sponsors public forums and conferences on issues of vital importance to labor and labor relations professionals.
Position Summary LERC maintains a pool of highly qualified instructors with direct experience in labor education, policy, and research. Potential positions are for instructors who are available for single day or short term instruction. Applicants should have demonstrated expertise working with labor unions, their staff, and members in areas such as collective bargaining, stewardship training, dispute resolution, economic equity, leadership development, and labor law, Appointments are intermittent, part-time, and temporary, up to one year with the possibility for renewal.
LERC is interested in diversifying its pool of instructors and therefore encourages applications from people of color, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree preferred. In exceptional circumstances, five or more years of significant professional experience in labor education may substitute for a degree. • Three years experience working with labor unions or on policies and research in a relevant field such as law, economics, adult education, industrial relations, or occupational safety and health is required.
Professional Competencies • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse groups and on issues relevant to working class Americans, people of color, women, and other under-represented individuals. • Demonstrated skill and experience in popular education in the labor education context including working knowledge of current labor issues, and experience developing and presenting curricula or program materials.
