The Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center (CBARC) invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed term Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
This position is located in Pendleton, Oregon.
The incumbent in this position contributes to the mission of Oregon State University Agricultural Experiment Station (OSUAES) with the primary responsibility of providing technical and scholarship support for the Extension Cereals program within the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center (CBARC).
Requires Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to the field in which research is being conducted.
B.S. Degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Science or a related field.
Experience in computer spreadsheet and word processing programs.
Ability to work independently and with others.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Possess or be able to obtain an Oregon public and demonstration/research pesticide applicators' license within six (6) months of employment and maintain throughout period of employment.
Must possess or be able to obtain a farm endorsement within six (6) months of employment and maintain throughout period of employment.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position involves field, greenhouse, laboratory and office work. Work schedule can vary dramatically depending on seasonal needs. Work outside of an 8-5 work day is not uncommon, and at times overnight trips will be required. Field and greenhouse work can be under temperature extremes. Field work can be under dusty, allergen-laden conditions. Hard physical activity involving lifting, pushing and pulling will be required under some circumstances. Must be able to lift, carry and pull objects up to 50 lbs and occasionally heavier weights. Must be able to operate university vehicles such as tractors, agricultural machinery, passenger vehicles. Enters restricted areas such as confined spaces, biological laboratories and construction sites. Performs agricultural chemical application (fungicide, herbicide, pesticide). Respirator or dust masks are required.
