The Associate Dean (AD) for Academic Affairs provides creative leadership that promotes growth, quality and innovation in all School of Nursing (SON) academic programs. Duquesne University School of Nursing is a national Catholic University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The AD will collaborate and administer with the Dean. University and SON administrators, faculty, students and staff to ensure integration of the School’s academic and faculty governance structures and processes with external and internal partners and affiliates. The AD provides a strategic vision for the direction and leadership of the academic affairs division and leads the Center for Faculty Development and Engagement. The AD is responsible for meeting accreditation and licensing standards, addressing curricular development needs, overseeing equitable faculty workloads, and expanding clinical partnerships and internships. The AD reports to the Dean and serves as a member of the SON’s Executive Council.
Support standards for mission-centered, innovative, cost-effective and efficient curricula and academic programming
Develop strong academic-clinical partnerships with clinical colleagues to create relevant clinical experiences and internship opportunities
Demonstrate strong leadership skills to create and support opportunities for academic collaboration across the university
Provide leadership and manage systems for academic policy, accreditation, and board approvals and reporting including direct oversight of accreditation documents and regulatory affairs reports and site visits for all SON academic programs
Provide the Dean analysis of academic program data relative to internal and external academic benchmarks, as well as timely plans for improvement as indicated
Assume responsibility for robust learning assessments and program evaluation methodology that provides continuous quality improvement
Mentor graduate chairs in monitoring online courses and programs for overall quality using Quality Matters or a comparable rubric, paying particular attention to accreditation standards, certification pass rates, student engagement, secured testing, scholarly writing, role competence, and other critical metrics
Mentor undergraduate chair in monitoring in-person courses and programs for overall quality using standardized testing and NCLEX-RN benchmark data; paying particular attention to test reliability and overall test statistics, verbal and written skills, clinical competence, and other critical metrics
Develop new academic programs in collaboration with faculty that meet regional and national needs
Oversee faculty teaching schedules and workload assignments utilizing the established workload rubric on a semester basis, addressing enrollment and faculty staffing as needed.
Develop and manage student and nursing faculty orientation programs
Establish a Center for Faculty Development and Engagement to facilitate ongoing faculty development in innovative teaching strategies, testing, and clinical evaluation, community-engaged teaching, educational technology, and interprofessional education and practice. Managing this Center includes seeking revenue-generating opportunities that will also improve nursing education locally, regionally and nationally.
Foster an environment that champions evidence-based teaching, educational scholarship, and program funding opportunities
Represent the SON at regional, state, and national levels to garner recognition for the SON’s excellent nursing programs and further its academic reputation and mission.
Develop and maintain SON Faculty and Student Handbooks in collaboration with the Dean
Coach faculty and staff to improve overall teaching, scholarship, and service productivity
Contribute to the teaching mission
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following qualifications and experience:
Education & Experience
A PhD in nursing or a related field
Academic experience that merits the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
Evidence of administrative experience and progressive leadership responsibilities (5 years of experience preferred)
Demonstrated track record of curricular development and evaluation
Experience in online teaching
Faculty development experience
Registered nurse with current license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or the ability to secure a Pennsylvania RN license.
Strong leadership skills

Ability to make data-informed decisions in a timely fashion
